Trust

Trust between employees, managers and employers is one of the hardest principles to develop, yet it is the most important foundation for consistent business
success. To first establish trust you must be a trustworthy business owner and leader in your words and actions, it is only then that the culture of
trust can be established in your team.

Why trust is so important in leadership

As a leader, you need to be aware of the agreements you make with your team. Even agreements such as “I’ll get back to you in a minute” are not acceptable
unless you intend to get back to them in a “minute”. There are many more examples of what may be called “small” agreements but the breaking of these
small agreements eventually lead to a breakdown of trust between you and your team members. If you need to change an agreement you have made, contact
that person and arrange another time, don’t “sweep it under the carpet” and pretend you didn’t say it.

Always do what you say you are going to do

When you are asked to do something by a team member take an extra second or two to think carefully before you answer and make sure the answer you give
is what you intend to do. Most people are “busy” doing their own tasks and when someone asks them to do something else they feel interrupted and tend
to dismiss this person as quickly as possible with a comment like “I’ll get back to you in a moment”. The keeping of “small” agreements will lead to
a greater possibility of establishing trust between you and your team. These actions also tell your team that this is the way we do business here and
they will then tend
to practise those same actions with your customers and I am sure you understand the immense value of establishing trust between your business
and your customers. All long-term consistent business success is based on repeat and referral business from your customers and that result is based
on trust. This starts with you as a leader.
